I hope Glenn is wrong, I fear he is not.

Here is a great observation by Glenn Greenwald. After reading John Dean's book, "Conservatives Without Conscience", I fear that Glenn is right. I realize that Leo will probably disagree with me on this.

I hope all of you get a chance to read Dean's book. It is well researched and scholarly. Dean is a Goldwater Conservative, with a lot of "street cred."

I checked the book out of the library tonight and will take a look at it. I am glad to see that it has a lot of footnotes.

I did take a look at GG's site too.

Solomon said, "He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him." so I'll read the book first.

Well, I read the book. A lot to digest since it presents a different perspective than the one that I accepted. The observations and studies by Altermeyer are interesting, compelling and certainly seem to fit some actions by the principles. I wonder whether or not the observation are incomplete and one dimensional. Time will tell but Dean has certainly given me a new paradigm to consider.

I certainly agree with him on Gingrich. While I agree with some of the current positions that Gingrich posits, I agree with Dean that he is an unprincipled manipulator who is not to be trusted.

The Colson situation is interesting to me since I really appreciate Colson's post Watergate Prison Ministry et.al Colson really hurt Dean from what I can read. It seems strange that Colson would attach himself to a defense of Watergate that has no evidence for support. Very strange.

Cheney seems like a man from a different age - pre sixties top down leader. He certainly has chose the wrong course of action by being so secretive. Dean is probably right with his observations that he convinced Bush to follow his (Cheney's) course of action.

It will be interesting to see how history renders the verdict on Bush's handling of the war on terror. He certainly made the wrong decision on invading Iraq. Too bad he did not listen to Gore.

Thanks for the recommendation. The time reading Dean's book was well spent.
